How it started
It began on a couch, with the problem you already have.
Every evening, the same small routine — lean for the coffee table, trust the cushion, or set the drink on the floor by the dog. You stop noticing you even do it.
Then one night it goes over. Not a disaster — a lapful, a paused show, a towel from the kitchen. And the thought finally lands: there is genuinely nowhere on this couch to put a drink. At our house — three kids under three, a couch that was never empty — a second thought landed right behind it: we can't be the only ones. So we set out to make somewhere.
The early versions were wrong in useful ways. Too rigid and they tipped; too soft and they sank into the cushion. It took a long stack of tries to land on a base that spreads across the surface and settles instead of balancing.

Everything happens within about three and a half miles.
The molds, the material, the color runs — all of it inside about three and a half miles of the shop in Orange, California. Nothing crosses an ocean. When a color comes out wrong, we can drive over and look at it the same afternoon.
